Coaching sessions last 60 minutes and take place on Zoom. Depending on the coachee's needs and status of the writing project, the number and frequency of sessions can be flexibly adjusted. If you need regular coaching, I recommend buying coaching packages (see prices). To arrange a free 30-minute first consultation, send an email to contact@sushila-mesquita.com..
In addition to the workshops listed here, I also offer workshops tailored to specific target groups and needs on request. The workshops can be organized as half-day or daily workshops with individual writing time and can be held online or on-site. They can also be combined with each other. Depending on the number and needs of the participants, I work with other BIPoC coaches. Prices upon request.
This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to start a writing project or who got stuck in the process and wants to find new tools to proceed. We will learn how to develop, narrow down, or refine research questions, create a table of contents, and/or a proposal, build writing routines, and get into writing with joy. In addition, we take time to set up writing groups focusing on regular encouraging exchanges and friendly feedback.
Writing is usually imagined by Western educational institutions as a mere matter of the mind. In order to emphasize the holistic character of (academic) writing, this workshop focuses on strengthening one’s own voice, on the challenges and possibilities of expressing embodied knowledge as "theory in the flesh" (Cherríe Morraga) or "sweaty concepts" (Sara Ahmed) and on sharing body practices for one’s own writing routine.
What happens after the first draft is done? How can I collect and integrate feedback? How can I
provide
authority and a ‘scientific character' to my writing without losing the vibrancy and power of my
voice? How can I identify the strengths and weaknesses of my work and ensure that it is held
together by a red thread?
In this workshop, we explore the challenges of revising and learn practical tools to make our texts
reader-friendly, rather than editing them ‘to death.’
With the help of authors like Audre Lorde or Gloria Anzaldúa, we will discover the transformative potential of writing, namely to advance radical imaginations, to strengthen our own voice, and to enable a profound understanding of interconnections.
How can we craft our arguments to convince readers? This workshop will explore creative tools for developing, refining, and structuring arguments around our theses and research questions—with the goal of guiding readers confidently and engagingly through each step of our thought process. This workshop is suitable for both beginning and advanced writers, as it provides guidance on refining research questions and structuring writing, as well as valuable tips for revising.
I would love to facilitate your writing retreats, either online or in person. I design customized input and exercises tailored to the needs of the participants and support writing groups in working on their projects with focus. If the setting allows, I also offer short individual coaching sessions to address specific questions and provide concrete assistance.
This offer is designed to help academic activists navigate the tension between their own political demands and an institutional framework. The aim is to find and maintain a good balance between often incompatible seeming demands, in order to have more time and energy for your own projects. As part of the coaching, I support the integration of empowering routines into everyday life as well as the creation of criteria for accepting and rejecting invitations.
This cross-disciplinary online colloquium for BIPoC students offers a safer space for exchange, friendly feedback and mutual support. Creating such an offer for BIPoC students at white-centric universities is necessary for reducing structural barriers and ensuring high-quality feedback. I assist in setting up structures for regular meetings, accompany them as a moderator, and offer practical tools and tips for writing. Price upon request.
Regular online writing groups create commitment to our writing projects, get us out of isolation, and
strengthen the BIPoC writing community. We begin with a short warm-up exercise and then write in
the
chat what we plan to do for the next hour and a half. We work in three sessions of 25 minutes of work
time with a 5-minute break. At the end, we come together again to share what we've accomplished and
what's next.
The co-working space is free of charge and open to all BIPoC. The meetings usually take place
three
times a month from 10:00 to 11:30 CET on Zoom; registration for individual sessions is not required.
I offer editing services to my coachees at a reduced price of 50 € / 80 CHF per hour.
I have many years of experience in organizing, moderating, and participating in panel discussions in the field of intersectional feminist, post- and decolonial, activist knowledge production. Prices upon request.
I offer research and sensitivity reading for performance and theater projects on post- and decolonial queer-feminist content. Prices on request.
As an external lecturer, I have been teaching regularly at various universities in German-speaking countries since 2006. I offer block courses on intersectional, queer-feminist post- and decolonial topics as well as on academic writing.
